What I Built
I recreated the exterior form and triangular facade pattern of this curved theater building by following a YouTube tutorial. The building shape is a modified oval and a modified circle connected with a Surface D bridge.
Tools I Used
- Rhino: Surface D, extrude curve, gumball, Surface D bridge, mesh, extrusions
- Grasshopper: diagonalize, mesh, face boundaries
- Baking: Made the Grasshopper pattern permanent in Rhino
The Biggest Challenge
The most challenging part was trying to get the mesh into square shapes instead of rectangles. This was needed for Grasshopper - the mesh was not connected correctly and I couldn't proceed. I didn't realize it was possible to mess up the mesh.
What I Learned
I learned a lot about different commands and things that can be made in Rhino. I also learned how to use Grasshopper to create patterns and then bake them to make them permanent Rhino geometry. That's why I can see the triangular pattern even when Grasshopper is closed.
